Where Does All of That Imagination Energy Go?

Why is it important to know where your imagination energy is going? Isn’t imagination just a cool thing that’s nice to have when we feel like being creative? I don't think so. I believe that it's much more than that. Having a great imagination not only leads to creativity and resourcefulness, but it’s the foundational building block for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Having a great imagination not only leads to creativity and resourcefulness, but it’s the foundational building block for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Imagination powers lotttts of different aspects of our lives, and some of those things are not always productive. For example, 'negative' anxiety – this just stresses us out and wears down on our health. And I say ‘negative anxiety’ because anxiety can sometimes be positive – when it’s channeled.

After much pondering, testing, mulling, and research on this topic, I believe that our imaginations manifest into 8 different categories: social activities, physicality, anxiety, sleep and/or depression, others’ wants and needs, draining work, consumption mode, and creation mode. (In fact, I created a visual & go further into detail here.) Ideally, I’d like a little bit of each of these things, but a lotta bit of creation mode. I mean – what better use of your imagination than to create? You can leave a mark on the world! A creative legacy.

Figure out where your own imagination energy is going, and you could be able to channel it in more productive and desirable ways. It makes sense to be conscious of where your imagination energy’s going as you reflect on your week or maybe even the month, but there’s no need to break it down on the daily. I’ve gone there, and it’s exhausting.

Anyways, thanks for checking out my theories and experiences with imagination. If any of it resonated, let me know in the comments!
